- TOURIST Safety news

Bangkok is the mecca of Asia AS WE KNOW IT AND AS MANY KNOW IT but things change from year to year. Once the dust settles in 2007 then we find the new dawn of 2008 bring in a sun shine of activity you have never witnessed before. Well thats until the new PP Party deicdes to go back West and change the face of the place. You got it I mean revamp the hours of pening times and try to get the kids inside by midnight. But Bangkok is still the most popular destination for tourists yound and old whether backpackers or business people. It has that charisma thats lacking in all those other western countries where the role of the law runs the show and has to be there, and where of course attitudes change people once theyve had a drink or 2 into zombies & instant arseholes. The city of Bangkok is a thriving metropolis and caters for everyone not just the idiots who want to seek out a marriage partner in one night. I guess thats part of "One night in Bangkok". At night time after dark the place is transformed with neons and lights that just dazzle the visitor & offers entertainment virtually all all all night from movies to the theatre---- from th go gos & to shows and videos to girlie bars, massage and live entertainment bands & nightclubs--whatever your into. Of course we welcome you to Casinobkk.com & BANGKOK CONFIDENTIAL where we you can see the jazzy side of Bangkok from massage parlours to the best eating and drinking spots from all over the world right to the lowdown girlie bars where the girls bare all to the sutle cabarets & videos. Yes Bangkok Confidential even offers business ideas and help for those here for the GO session ---that means business and pleasure as well as those uniques stories that happen in "the land of smiles".
But Thailand can be a trap for the unwary traveller so be careful wherever you go.

Watch out for any touts wanting to help you inside the airport. They are everywhere and yes they try to offer you cheap deals for 700baht no meter then will talk you into all sorts of things on the way. There is nothing cheap apart from the real meter in the taxi but only you know this! Do not talk to them or listen as we would say at Bangkok Confidential. The Tourist Police office are on the ground floor if you get hassled bu do you think they will be near the doors when it all happens --of course not. Army no objection to travel warnings by foreign embassies
In Bangkok, Army chief-of-staff General Montree Sangkrasap said Saturday the army has no objection to foreign governments issuing travel warnings for Thailand and the southern provinces, saying they have the right to warn their citizens because of potential violence. At least three Western embassies in Thailand updated their warnings on Friday about possible terrorism after the country's defence minister said Muslim insurgents in the south could extend their attacks to Bangkok. The Australian, Canadian and British embassies revised their advisories warning travellers to exercise caution in Bangkok as well as the south, while the US Embassy did not change its standing advice to exercise care in both areas. There has been no headaches for tourists from bombers etc in Bangkok as at this date and there was but looks like someone needed to put something in the old paper & start a scandel. Its now 2008 an we are still waiting for news from the bombers & of course the returning PM Mr Taksin whose more thanlikely arranged to beat the corruption charges. Hey but watch out cause the PP party will be saying its the army whose stopping us coming into power -- -- - well wouldn't you if you were as corrupt as they are..

Swede run over by 10-wheel truck Feb 27th
KARON: A Swedish man was killed instantly on Patak Rd on Friday afternoon after he fell off his motorbike and was run over by a 10-wheeler truck.Tommy Leif Jonsson, 50, was driving a 100cc Yamaha between Kata and Chalong when he lost control and fell off the bike near the Plub Pla Resort, Lt Col Anek Mongkol of the Chalong Police. The driver of a 10-wheel truck following him failed to notice the fallen Swede, who was killed instantly when his skull was crushed and both legs broken. The driver of the truck, 29-year-old Suwanchai Karnprakob, fled the scene in the vehicle, police said. He was later arrested and charged with vehicular manslaughter, and released without bail. Jonsson was returning to his bungalow in Karon from Chalong Police Station when the accident occurred. He had gone to the police station to report a motorbike accident in which he had been involved just two days earlier, in the hope of having his hospital expenses for that accident covered by his insurance. Source Phuket Gazette for Southern Thai news Such a familiar story that of course the truckie wasn't speeding?? or didn't notice the guy or waqs it really the guys fault. Hey who knows now. Keep well away from 10 wheeler trucks as many are on speed pills or yabba. They also have a habit of driving on or running away as with bus drivers. Some years ago in Chiangmai a US friend of ours was run over on her bike by a 10 wheeler. The driver backed back over her legs to kill her then drove off thinking she was dead. She was not but in a wheel chair so be warned

I can remember some years back a bar/restraurant in Jomtien Uk owner was arrested for selling Viagra over the counter. Old Bill had a great bar called the Winchester & it was a hit with the expats on Sat/Sun and of course a few of the Local lads from the Royal Thai Police who loved theor free drinks on Bill. Por ole Bill had a sign above his bar in the then Winchester Club --a very popular on the weekends for expats etc. the Police used to go there for free drinks and food & monthly graft and seemed alright until one day they decided to do something about it. Why will they saw many foreigners taking the many girls in tow and they wanted to be part of it ------ wouldn't you if you only got a basic salary and really couldn't afford to buy a new bike let alone a nice Glock!!!! Well as the story goes old Bill was busted by the Police as he did not have Pharmaceutical license. It doesn't end there - -- the local boys wanted a payoff which Bill could afford but also they decided the bar had to go as it was bringing the place into disrepute. Pattaya, Pattaya Bars --- 1700 of them??? so Bill had to pack his bags and get the ejection seat out of the land of smiles forever - - - wow the sign was even made on an A4 piece of paper as I even saw it. But like they say to those who don't know the rules in Thailand don't put sogns up over your bar. But go and ask where the rules are and you will find there aren't none. They are made up as time goes by. Talk about Thailand -- well theres more to come but this is a warning to all who wish to sell even prescription drugs you can buy over the counter in thailand. Bill lost his bar and we believe his right to stay in Thailand after this???

DON'T TAKE SHORTCUTS WITH TUK TUKS. PATTAYA
A motorcycle taxi driver who attempted to rape a Korean woman but was prevented when she fought back, instead snatched her shoulder bag and escaped with her money.Police were called out just after midnight on February 7 that a foreign woman had been dragged into the bushes behind the Kasa Hotel Jomtien in an attempted rape. The driver took her shoulder bag containing US$ 600 and 10,000 Thai baht, and sped off after she screamed. Normally in a place like Pattaya its done on the street or by motorcycle passengers grabbing the gold but people never learn in the land of smiles. Only those of us at Bangkok Confidential know the real story or do we!
Yes you can t ry to remember their Tuk Tuk number but who the heck does that unless they have just retired from the FBI. & never carry all your money in one place eg bra is safe for women. Don't let them take short cuts as they may be leading you into dark alley for other things.
PATTAYA MAIL : ROBBERY IN BROAD DAYLIGHT:
Police received a report at 12:35 a.m. on February 12 that an attempted robbery had taken place at Jomtien Beach, opposite the Rimhad Condominium. At the scene, officers found Veikko Orvokki, 50, and Mrs Sirkka Orvokki, 61, a couple from Finland. Nearby a man was being detained by a security guard from the condominium. The couple said the man had attempted to rob them. He was identified as Kachorndet Rakkong, 23, a waiter in a nearby hotel. Kachorndet admitted that he along with two accomplices had tried to rob the couple. You can see how braisen some robbers can be and only a security guard did anything to help so that was at least a good deed.

PATTAYA ELDERLY WOMAN ATTACKED AND ROBBED NOONE HELPED:
Two women attacked an elderly Dutch woman on Walking Street, within 50 meters of the police box, and escaped with her money and valuables. The mugging happened during the evening of February 11. She was staying at a hotel on Jomtien Beach Road. She had taken a taxi from there to South Pattaya Beach. While she was walking along the beach, two women tried to pull her handbag away from her. She resisted, whereupon the women knocked her to the ground. Then they took her 10,000-baht gold chain, two 14-karat rings valued at more than 10,000 baht, and 10,000 baht in cash before running away.
At the scene of the attack were street vendors, a car rental stand, and a motorcycle taxi queue, but no one helped to stop the assault so how safe is safe when theres people in Thailand that just stand and watch it all. . Source Feb 2007. Read more in the foreign Newspaper: Pattaya Mail

INNOCENT RUSSIAN GIRLS MURDERED ON JOMTIEN BEACH PATTAYA:
source dailynews.co.th
SUSPECT CAUGHT: Police offered a 100,000-baht reward and caught the gunman who killed two Russian woman tourists on Jomtien beach in Pattaya on Saturday. Assawin Kwanmuang, chief of the Provincial Police Bureau 2, said the tourists, Livbov Svirkova, 25, and Tatiana Tsimfer, 30, were on a package tour and arrived in Pattaya on Feb 16. It was their first trip to the resort town. They checked in at a hotel near the spot on the beach where they were found dead in their deckchairs. Each had been shot several times.Pol Lt-Gen Assawin said records showed the two women were self-employed overseas and had nothing to do with any illegal businesses in Pattaya. They spent their entire time as tourists and there was no evidence they were involved in any business dealings here. Security cameras recorded what appeared to be an Asian man shooting the women from a distance. The killer did not touch the women's belongings. The pictures needed to be examined more closely as the image of the man was taken from afar and was quite fuzzy, Pol Lt-Gen Assawin said. A suspect has been caught.A reward of 100,000 baht was being offered for information leading to the capture of the killer.
It hasn't ended here as there may be another motive to the murders as the suspect stole nothing and the Chief of Police is heading to Pattaya to give the locals a stir up and get rid of the mafia running the joint. Pattaya is plagued by THAI AND FOREIGN MAFIAS. Its about time and this new Police chief means business not like the many past ones who just hold out their hands. Tens of thousands of Russian holidaymakers visit Pattaya every year.
